March 30 Exchange Migrations from 2000 to 2003Friday, January 05, 2007
Details of Exchange Server Migrations Task Completed at M/s.xyzLtd.,
Installed new server with RAID5, Windows 2003 STD, connected to network as a member systems and done windows updated / hot fix etc.,
Run Adprep / forestprep and adprepr/domainprep on windows 2000 server by using the windows 2003 setup. The mangled character has been removed by using KB article 314649.:
Run DCPROMO.exe to connect to network as a ADC - left the server for 30 - 45 minutes ideal to synchronize the ADS with each other. Installed MS support tool on both the server (Win200 and Win2003) to edit the Registry and DNS etc,.,
4. Installation of Exchange 2003 STD on New Box:
Installed Exchange 2003 STD on new server after running exchange setup/forestprep and setup /domainprep. When we to run the Exchange Setup its not allowing to run the exchange setup, and throwing error message like:
We found that time miss match between ADC / DC, there was 487 second diff. we have rectified by editing registry time to times.microsoft.com. After fixing the time issue its allowed to install exchange 2003 on the New Server and configured. Immediately installed AV software on new server.
We have created test mail ID on new exchange server to test the mail flow (T1, T2, & T3). The mails moved from New Exchange to queue and giving NDR for external mail flow. We have done lot of R&D to resolve the issue its not through, we suspected on firewall may black the new exchange server mail flow.
MS Technical support: With the help of MS Tech support the SMTP relay has been re-configured to relay to Exchange 2000 for mail flow.
a. When trying to send email to
We have check mails send / received internally as well as outside network… its find working fine..
Exchange Up-gradations: Exchange 2003 STD to Exchange 2003 Enterprises. Ref: KB 170280
We have stopped some of Exchange services to install Exchange 2003 Entp. and ran the Exchange 2003 Entp. setup on New Box the its was asking for confirmation to re-write the bin folder of older version “Yes” to overwrite its got upgraded successful to Exchange 2003 Enterprises. Once again the Exchange Server pack 2 has applied on Enterprise environment.
We had discussion on Exchange Relay: whether they want to point the firewall (gateway) directly to new box or relay through old server. The Management agreed to route the mail through old exchange server. In case the old server go down they have change the gateway setting point to New Exchange 2003 server.
We have moved IT department mail user database to Exchange 2003 to testing purpose. They will be testing it for 4 – 5 days after successful testing they plan to move the rest of the user’s mail box to new server.
Final cleanup work: we have verified the 3rd party software installations, the above said procedure has been explained to Yuken IT staff.
New Systems Setup: Systems Model: HP ProLiant DL380 G5
OS : Window Server 2003 STD, With Server Pack 1 HDD: 146 * 3 (RAID5) RAM: 2GB
Local Drive Volume:
Systems Name: UILMAILSVR, IP: 172.19.154.1 Gateway: 172.19.154.4 DNS: 172.19.154.3 / 172.19.154.1
Suggestions: I insist to upgrade the 1GB additional Memory in to OLD server. I request to take regular backups.
